Set on the edge of Hilton within an AONB & Conservation Area, our clients were keen that their new building had minimal impact on the rural surroundings. The brief was for a utilitarian style building that had both a contemporary feel but with a nod to the agricultural surroundings.
Timber was the natural choice for this build as it complemented the natural setting and the build would be faster and less disruptive for the clients who would be both living & working on site for the duration of the build. The Douglas Fir frame was built on site by a small team of craftsmen and was then clad in Western Red Cedar. The roof was finished in black wriggly tin & the building was painted in a black stain. The black finish allows the building to blend into the natural shadows of the surrounding countryside.
The interior of the building incorporates a clean, contemporary design studio with a small kitchen, bathroom & a mezzanine area for family entertainment & occasional guest lodgings.
